Street Photography: Cell Study

Updated: Feb 22

Street photos from London, February 2023.

I like to think of street photography like a wet mount slide in an lab. I draw a specimen and drop it with water onto a glass slide. I gently apply a coverslip. I peer into the microscope to study cells. Little bits of city life. It's famously happy-making to me.

I'm partial to the gentleman in the first picture. So English. Ruddy-faced, cigarette in hand, a ferociously passive stare. His reluctant acceptance to my taking his picture. The "woman" bus edging around the corner.

As I've said before, street photography is very challenging as I think it is to most photographers. But it's also infinitely rewarding, life affirming and fun. It's the most shy and the most brave I've ever been.
