#9 Making Her Mark Foundation Launch Party

When Ruut DeMeo and I met at Atwater's for coffee in July I came in hot, rushed and possibly un-deodorized from my car. When I sat down with her I immediately felt…there must be a Japanese or Icelandic word for this…a sudden rush of calm and purpose.

Ruut, the founder of the Making Her Mark Foundation, is an artist who supports --financially, spiritually and emotionally--fellow women artists. She's driven and it's palpable. She asked me to photograph her big upcoming launch party.

At the September party (an irresistibly glow-y early fall evening), she went above and beyond to show her ticketed guests (all proceeds benefiting her foundation) the spectacle of local female-identifying artists of all kinds. Painters, sculptors, musicians, illustrators, photographers.

Spectacularly creative women celebrating other women just feels right. And the dress code of "colorful and creative" made us all come through wearing our brightest and most festive of summer wear.
